This statue of Guanyin is called Jinping Grand Guanyin. The foot of Jinping Mountain is the birthplace of the ancestors of Dongyi in ancient China, which was called Dongyi Land in ancient times. They lived in harmony with all living beings here. However, the ancestors of Dongyi who lived here suffered a catastrophic natural disaster. The mountains dried up, the crops were not harvested, and the bark of grass roots was eaten up, which made human beings extinct. On the Lingyan of Qiantiaojian, there appeared a woman in a white dress, with a white head drape, beads in her right hand, a net bottle with wicker inserted in her left hand. After she fed the sparrows on the dew in the bottle, the sparrows, with great divine power, flew to the granary of Heaven and borrowed food. The woman in white threw her beads and turned them into a granary for disaster relief. She helped the ancestors of Dongyi tide over the difficulties. In order to thank the sparrow king and the followers, people changed the leech stream into Sparrow King Stream. At this time, the ancestors and sentient beings in Dongyi realized that the woman in white was actually the embodiment of Guanyin Bodhisattva. Only the nectar in her clean bottle had such great power, and only her beads could become a granary for disaster relief. This is the story of Guanyin's embodiment in Jinping, so the local people call her Jinping Grand Guanyin.
